about

Dwelling the floating interzone between psychedelic pop and downtempo escapism, Niels Meukens' debut EP as Multani - “DOT” - takes us on a tour round cottony atmospheres and naively-brushed, seaswept landscapes. Revolving around a finely engineered mix of sun-washed guitar riffs, processed vox lines and dusty synths soaked to the bone in idyllic coastal shimmer, this maiden effort from the Belgian drummer-turned-producer turns up right on cue for extended listening and slo-dancing sessions by the bonfire this summer.

Breaking the EP in, juicy opener and first single “Lime” sets the vibe for the ride ahead with a vibrant swarm of seasonal gradients. Putting together a kaleidoscopic meshwork of laid-back electronics and lysergic pop tropes, the song has us levitating to a weightless symphony of brittle vocals, dynamic drums and cucumber-cool synth arpeggios. “Melon” follows up with more of a sluggish, piano-strewn jazz swagger, perfect for when the sun sets and the vibe gets nonchalantly breezy by the bar and its hereabouts.

After the ambient interlude "Everyday Is The Same” has treated you to its balmy cascade of soothing chimes and fluttering pads, here comes the second single “Cycle” - a playful melange of 60s-laced retro-futuristic bleeps and bloops, wonky drumwork, alien spurts from outer-space and fellow singer Jeroen Geboers FX-doused voice to gleefully wrap your ears around. Rounding off the package is “Melt”, a lo-velocity, synth-heavy joint care freely spinning its way out in the troposphere as Earth edges away and its inhabitants morph from giants to ants in the blink of an eye.
